Motorcyclists, pillion riders made up almost half of 71 road fatalities in first half of 2023

More people died or were injured due to traffic accidents in the first half of 2023, with more than 4,500 casualties recorded. According to Traffic Police data, that’s up 17.1% from the same period last year. There were 71 deaths, with motorcyclists and pillion riders making up almost half the count. Top causes of accidents involving motorcycles include failing to keep a proper lookout and changing lanes without due care. Meanwhile, accidents involving elderly pedestrians are also on the rise. Close to 130 seniors were injured in the first half of 2023 — a 14% rise from the same period last year.
