When I started in real estate, one of the dominant forces in news, regional business, and the real estate market was the Los Angeles Times. It seems like everyone I knew subscribed to it. You either subscribed, would pick up a copy, or if you went to a restaurant other customers would leave copies you could read for free. As a real estate professional, the weekend edition had the list of open houses, advertisements of all the leading companies, and noted important news and trends in real estate. When the digital world started, the LA Times started its own version of AOL or the internet that it attempted to control, so in a world of open sources, it failed. And rather than adapt to the new market, the LA Times started a long and slow death that it is marching to today, this week announcing yet another series of huge layoffs.
