Is Los Angeles collecting enough storm water?

It may be hard to imagine, but the same flood-control system that buffered L.A. from the passing storm, also saw tens of billions of gallons of stormwater flush to the sea.

As rising global temperatures push the region to prepare for drier, hotter climates, initiatives like the Safe Clean Water Program are underway to better capture and store rain as it comes.

But it won’t be easy, considering our aging infrastructure, worsening storms, and the need to protect communities built along historic floodplains.
