Hamas seemingly 'playing for time' amid threat of an Israeli ground invasion of Gaza

Shadow Foreign Minister Simon Birmingham says Hamas is seemingly “playing for time” as the IDF plans for a possible ground invasion of Gaza.

Hamas has released two elderly Israeli women from captivity and into the care of the Red Cross.

Mr Birmingham welcomed the release of the two civilians but said hostages “should never have been taken in the first place” as part of Hamas’ horrific attack on Israel.

He called for all hostages held in Hamas’ captivity to be released.

“Hamas is not doing a great humanitarian gesture by releasing just another two of 200 plus hostages,” he told Sky News Australia.
