This is AP NewsMinute.

Voting begins Monday night in the Iowa caucuses.

Former President Donald Trump is widely expected to win the opening round of the Republican presidential nomination process.

The US military Central Command says Houthi rebels in Yemen fired a missile at an American ship in the Red Sea.

The missile was shot down.

A top White House official said “the time is right” for Israel to scale back its offensive in the Gaza Strip.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said Israel will keep fighting until the militant group Hamas is defeated and all hostages held in Gaza are freed.

Sunday, Hamas released a short video of three hostages, presumably speaking under duress, pleading with their government to end the war.

Dangerously cold arctic weather is expected in much of the US on Monday.

Wind chills could reach 30 below from the Northern Rockies to Kansas and Iowa.
